Discover Mauritius from Heritage Resorts & Golf
Mauritius, an island synonymous with white, sandy beaches and turquoise waters, is a paradise with so much to offer.
During your stay at Heritage Resorts and Golf, you can discover a world of stunning landscapes, rich history and hidden gems that lie just beyond the resort. Whether you’re drawn to rugged nature, serene spirituality, or cultural landmarks, Mauritius has something to captivate every traveller.
Here, we have picked seven of our must-visit favourites, which showcase the diverse beauty and rich heritage of our tropical island – all, just a short journey from your base at the Indian Ocean’s only 45-hole resort.
La Réserve Golf Links
Located within Heritage Resorts & Golf and offering an unparalleled experience of pure golfing drama, La Réserve Golf Links is the first and only contemporary links in the Indian Ocean. Co-designed by Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen and renowned architect Peter Matkovich, the course takes full advantage of its natural landscape, former sugar cane fields that have been sensitively planted with native grasses to create rich rolling grasslands, encouraging ecological diversity.
With panoramic ocean views from every hole, this exhilarating new course plays hand-in-hand with nature alongside a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Extending the resort’s commitment to sustainability, La Réserve Golf Links earned GEO Certified® Development status as soon as it opened – the first course in Africa to do so.
This new links course is a highlight of any golfers’ stay at Heritage Resorts & Golf, and therefore a definite must-play!
Bel Ombre Nature Reserve
Just moments from Heritage Resorts & Golf lies the Bel Ombre Nature Reserve, a pristine sanctuary for nature lovers and adventure seekers. This expansive reserve is a testament to Mauritius’ commitment to preserving its natural heritage. Visitors can explore lush landscapes through well-marked trails that cater to both leisurely walks and more challenging hikes. Guided nature walks from Heritage Resorts ensure you can explore Bel Ombre’s beauty with expert insight.
With sustainability a key focus on the island, Bel Ombre Nature Reserve has introduced eco-friendly initiatives that ensure tourism here supports conservation efforts and the local community – principles we also strongly adhere to at Heritage Resorts & Golf.
Le Morne Brabant
A short 25-minute drive along the coastline will take you to Le Morne Brabant, a natural monument rising majestically on the southwestern tip of Mauritius. More than just a beautiful landmark, it’s a symbol of the island’s history and cultural resilience. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, it carries a deep connection to Mauritius’ past, making it an essential visit for those seeking both natural beauty and historical significance.
A hike up Le Morne Brabant offers panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and the island’s coastline, making the climb a rewarding adventure. We recommend visiting at sunrise for the best views!
Ganga Talao
Tucked away in the tranquil highlands of Mauritius, about a 45-minute drive from Heritage Resorts, lies Ganga Talao, also known as Grand Bassin. This tranquil crater lake is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites outside of India, offering a spiritual experience surrounded by temples dedicated to various Hindu deities.
Ganga Talao holds deep spiritual significance, and a visit provides a unique opportunity to witness and participate in a significant cultural event, even if only through quiet observation.
Rochester Falls
Hidden in the lush, less-travelled southern part of the island, Rochester Falls is about half an hour’s drive from Heritage Resorts. Known for its unique lava columns and cascading waters, this secluded waterfall provides a peaceful retreat into nature. The only sounds here are the rushing water and the songs of native birds.
It’s an ideal location for photography or simply soaking in the natural beauty. Visitors can also take a refreshing dip in the pools below the falls or enjoy a picnic in the calm surroundings.
Black River Gorges National Park
For those looking to explore the wilder side of Mauritius, Black River Gorges National Park is around a 40-minute drive from Heritage Resorts. As the largest national park in Mauritius, it offers a vast network of trails that meander through dense forests and along dramatic gorges, showcasing the island’s untamed beauty.
The park is renowned for its trails, which range from easy walks to challenging treks. It provides countless opportunities to spot endemic birds and plants while enjoying the scenic landscapes.
Chamarel 7 Coloured Earth Geo Park
Chamarel 7 Coloured Earth Geo Park, about a 35-minute drive from Heritage Resorts, is an iconic natural attraction renowned for its striking geological formations. The vibrant-coloured sands, ranging from red and brown to violet and blue, create a mesmerising landscape surrounded by lush vegetation and cascading waterfalls, including the towering Chamarel Waterfall.
This unique destination blends natural beauty with cultural and historical insights, offering a must-visit experience for travellers. Visitors can explore well-maintained pathways, learn about the geological history through educational displays, and even encounter giant tortoises in a dedicated sanctuary.
Whether marvelling at the science behind the colours or enjoying the breathtaking views, the Geo Park promises a memorable adventure.
